I wrote this in response to an interesting profile today and feel like it cuts to a lot of my interests:

I do think that people should do what they're suited to, or meant for. It turns out that some women are suited to being rocket scientists, or whatever other fancy career, and that's fine. But some women aren't meant for that at all, but everybody says that they should be, so they believe it. And the same thing for men. We live in a culture where everybody is better than average, and everybody thinks he's going to be a chief and nobody thinks he's going to be an Indian. Some men are only useful for picking up trash on the freeways, and some women are only useful on their backs with their legs up in the air. Even if a woman recognizes her place as just being a piece of fuckmeat, built only to satisfy men, it's easy for her to forget because we're so immersed in these cultural expectations. If she forgets, I think it's perfectly appropriate and reasonable for a man to remind her, to whatever degree necessary.
