I visited Toronto last weekend for pride and I had a lot of fun! Whenever I see people out expressing themselves and unashamed of who they are (which they have no reason TO be) it makes me feel happy, that there are no "social norms" or "status quo" to hold us back from being happy. I do think that the world would be a more enjoyable place if we didnt have to worry about if we are sexy or beautiful or what other people will think of us if we express who we are. To me, Pride is the future, not one of debauchery or illicit sex or "deviants" but one of peace, love and understanding, where no one is afraid of things like race, sexual preference, what to wear or social acceptance. If the world became a place where Pride is no longer neccessary, I think that we would keep it, mostly because it's just one hell of a party! My only regret was that I couldnt stay for the evening events with the clubs and parties.
During my visit to Toronto I decided to step into Steamworks, the bathhouse on Church Street. Mostly I stayed in the hot tub area for a relaxing soak but I also wandered around the various rooms that were available. I have to say that there are a few things that bathhouses need, garbage cans everywhere are one of them, I stepped on about five used condoms! While I walked through the dark halls I wondered if there are bathhouses that are more classy than the dimly lit, steel plated halls that made up Steamworks. One's that are well lit, artistic and CLEAN! Coming from a small town, places like Steamworks and SpaXcess interests me greatly as places where gay men can go to for common companionship and release at a reasonable deal. I thought it was also nice that they have student discounts available... on certain nights of the week... Though I have to say, if done right, owning a bathhouse wouldnt be that bad, I even wonder how profitable it is.... |
